They stole copper cables from a construction site of the OSE in western Thessaloniki and in their attempt to escape they rammed a police car of the National Police.AS. Two 27-year-old men were arrested, while two other perpetrators, whose identities have been identified, are being sought.
The incident occurred in the early hours of M. Tuesday, when the four persons involved went to the construction site, which is located in Kordelio, where they removed copper cables. Their movements were noticed by a security guard, who informed the SWAT team.
Police officers from the Crime Prevention and Suppression Department located the suspects inside a vehicle and at a nearby abandoned construction site. Developing speed to flee, they crashed into a police official vehicle and then abandoned the car and fled on foot.
After a search, the two 27-year-olds were located near the railway tracks and arrested, despite their fierce resistance, according to a police statement.
They were found in possession of gloves and a box cutter, while a cell phone and documents were found in the vehicle. In addition, they were found to be in possession of small quantities of cannabis.
A case was filed against the arrested persons for grand theft, attempted dangerous bodily harm, violence against employees, damage to property and drug law violations.
The removed cables were returned to the site custodian.
