The PPC Group participates in the research project METEN – “Transforming Energy Pricing: From the Unified to the Dynamic Approach”, which is implemented in the framework of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan “Greece 2.0” with funding from the European Union – NextGenerationEU. The METEN project is being implemented to develop and pilot an innovative dynamic electricity pricing system for residential consumers, which will allow the price of electricity to be adjusted according to demand, production costs and consumption profile.
The 13-month project is one of the first integrated dynamic billing applications in Greece, contributing to the digital transformation of the energy sector and the transition to a more efficient and sustainable energy system.
The project has already developed and continues to develop mathematical optimisation models and machine learning techniques to analyse consumption data and support dynamic electricity pricing. In parallel, it is planned to install smart meters on residential consumers, collect and analyse consumption data in real time and develop an interactive digital platform that will allow users to monitor and manage their consumption efficiently.
The PPP has an active role in exploring the needs and challenges associated with dynamic electricity pricing. In this context, it has designed and implemented qualitative research by interviewing energy sector experts, helping to identify critical issues such as the need for a clear regulatory framework, the technological requirements for implementation, and the importance of consumer awareness and trust.
In parallel, PPC is responsible for the selection of the sample of household consumers who will participate in the pilot implementation of the project, as well as for the design of the incentive mechanism that will enhance their active participation. In addition, it shall coordinate the pilot phase of the project, including the installation of smart meters, the information of the participants and the operational monitoring of the trial operation.
With its participation in the METEN project, PPC strengthens its role as a pioneer in dynamic electricity pricing, while contributing to the development of new expertise in areas such as data analysis, understanding consumer behaviour and developing flexible pricing products. Participation in the project is part of PPC Group’s strategy to leverage digital technologies and innovative energy solutions as part of its transformation into a modern Powertech Group.
The implementation of the project is carried out by a consortium involving the Athens University of Economics and Business, Public Power Corporation S.A, the International Hellenic University, the University of West Attica and Meazon SA. Electronic Systems.
