A very emotionally charged moment unfolded in Brussels, where Akilas continued his European tour ahead of the Eurovision 2026 Song Contest, but this time everyone’s attention turned to a personal and human side of the artist.
The representative of Greece travelled to Belgium to promote the song “Ferto” as part of the Eurovision tour, with his mother by his side. During his meeting with the city’s Greek community, the two exchanged a warm embrace, in a moment that caused intense emotion among those present.
In a video released on social media, Akilas performs the song with which he will take to the stage in Vienna next May, wrapped in the Greek flag. At one point, he reaches out to his mother, brings her to him and embraces her, with the two of them singing together as the audience responds with warm applause.
In a second video posted, Akilas appeared to give a speech, tearfully saying, “I can’t hide my emotion. I see you all here and I feel both your love and your embrace and it’s really special to me that my mother is here today after all this promo. I’m also touched. I’m very happy really. Greece lives everywhere and everywhere I’ve been on this tour, I’ve met Greeks who have embraced Ferto and me and it’s very touching and great that Greece and the public have chosen me with the committees. It is a great honour and I will really do my best. I will give 200% of myself to bring the best possible position,” he said.
The emotion peaked when the singer called his mother back to him, wanting to publicly share his gratitude. “A big round of applause for this woman, because if it wasn’t for this woman, there would be no Ferto,” he said, with her wiping away his tears in an image that captured their deep relationship.
