The festive opening hours of shops have already been put into effect in view of Easter, as announced by the Commercial Associations in Athens, Thessaloniki and Piraeus.
As every year, shops are operating with extended hours in order to accommodate the increased shopping traffic. The special program will last until Holy Saturday, 11 April 2026.
What’s on for Good Friday and Easter Monday
According to legislation, on Good Friday, shops across the country can open from 1pm onwards. At the same time, employees are only allowed to work after that time.
However, there is the possibility of differentiating the working hours, if the municipality in question decides to do so, at the request of the local trade association, in cases where local conditions so require.
On the contrary, Easter Monday is a compulsory holiday and shops will be closed throughout the country.
