One hundred and forty-six gold pounds and approximately 4.000 euros were obtained from an elderly woman in the Pella area, under the pretext of an alleged fine imposed on her son for undeclared money and valuables.

According to a statement from EL.AS.., a 35-year-old man was arrested for the case in Thessaloniki, while the details of his 30-year-old accomplice were identified. The removed items were found in a house used by the arrested man, while they were returned to the 81-year-old victim.

As it emerged from the investigation of the police officers of the Edessa Crime Investigation and Detection Department, an unknown person called the elderly woman last Wednesday, pretending to be an accountant, and citing the alleged fine, persuaded her to collect money and valuables in order to deliver them to his partner, who was supposed to record them.

In fact, after some time the 35-year-old appeared outside the unsuspecting woman’s house, with the sufferer gathering the gold pounds and cash in a bag, which she threw from her balcony. Once he had collected them he fled in a car in which his 30-year-old accomplice was waiting for him.

Following a complaint, investigations by the EL.AS. that led to the traces of the two persons involved (the case file includes another person with regional involvement).

The police investigation is continuing both to identify the identity of their unknown accomplices and for their possible involvement in similar scams.
