The 21-year-old friend of Kleomenis, who was present in the bloody incident that claimed the life of the 20-year-old on the evening of March 12 in Kalamaria, was found to be in custody after his apology to the 1st regular interrogator of Thessaloniki.
He is the third person to make his way to prison for this incident which appears to be linked to fan differences. He was preceded by the temporary detention of the 23-year-old accused of intentional homicide with 20-year-old Kleomenis, and another friend of the victim, aged 19.
The 21-year-old accused crossed the threshold of the investigating judge handling the case today and apologized for the acts of grievous bodily harm with intent (a felony), gang and possession of objects that can cause bodily harm (with the aggravating provisions of the Sports Law).
According to reports, in apologizing, this young man moved in the line followed by his 19-year-old co-defendant. He allegedly claimed that he was in Kalamaria, accompanying Kleomeni, because his 20-year-old friend wanted to meet a person (the 23-year-old, according to the case file) who, driven by fan motives, was “teasing” young people and minors.
He claimed that after an argument they pushed the 23-year-old away and that they did not have any objects – weapons – on them. He added that initially he and the 19-year-old did not realise that Cleomenis had been stabbed and that they then saw him collapse next to the bins on Argonauts Street.
Recall that the 23-year-old had claimed during his apology that he was unprovoked attacked under his house and that he committed the manslaughter attributed against him in defence using the knife he had on him “blindly”.
The main inquest in the case is continuing and witnesses are being called to give evidence in the case, while the investigating officer reportedly asked police to gather CCTV footage to capture the movements and routes of both sides before and after the killing incident.
