Once the application has been approved, no modification is allowed.

Features of the Fuel Pass

.

.

  • The subsidy will be given in the form of an electronic card that can be used at petrol stations, public transport and taxis, while for those who do not have the ability to use a smartphone, the amount can be deposited into a bank account of their choice
  • In order to receive the aid, the natural person will have to declare on a relevant platform on gov.gr the vehicle for which he/she receives the aid and on which he/she must have a share of co-ownership or a long-term lease contract.
  • Each vehicle may be declared by only one natural person and each natural person may declare only one vehicle. A prerequisite is that the vehicle must be in circulation, be insured and no registration fees must be due.
  • For beneficiaries who opt to use a digital debit card, the amount of financial support will be increased.
  • The subsidy for a car in a continental area will be 50 euros for the two months of April-May, with the use of a digital card (40 euros without card).
  • For citizens whose main residence is in an island region, the subsidy for the two months is 60 euros using a digital card (50 euros without card).
  • For motorcycle owners, the subsidy is €30 (€25 without card) on the mainland and €35 (€30 without card) on islands.

The subsidy on diesel

Double winners are those who own a diesel car, as in addition to the subsidy through Fuel Pass, they also benefit from the subsidy at the pump, which is not just for commercial vehicles.

The amount of the subsidy amounts to €0.16 before VAT per litre of diesel fuel sold on the domestic market from 1 to 30 April 2026. Thus, including VAT, the total subsidy for drivers amounts to EUR 0.20 per litre. In fact, as the relevant Decision states, the subsidy is fully passed on to final consumers and this means in practice that if the current price is 2.118 euros/litre, with the subsidy it should fall to 1.918 euros/litre.

Notably, the subsidy received by the final consumer is expressed as the product of the quantity of diesel consumption multiplied by the amount of the subsidy per litre, plus VAT, without affecting the ceiling of 0.12 euro/litre including VAT, which has already been activated.

The subsidised quantities of diesel oil may be distributed by service stations and consumed by final consumers beyond 30 April 2026, provided that there are quantities on the market which were distributed at a price reduced by the amount of the subsidy.
