“The safety of students attending schools, in every corner of the country, is a constant priority for the Government of the New Democracy,” Deputy Minister of Interior Vassilis stressed during the discussion of a topical question in the Parliament, regarding the state of school infrastructure in the Municipality of Ioannina.

As regards the damage caused by the floods that hit the city in the last two months, the Deputy Minister of Interior stressed that the Municipality of Ioannina continues to take all necessary measures for the maintenance of the school infrastructure and the safe operation of school units.

He added that following cooperation between the Municipality of Ioannina and the Technical Chamber (Epirus Branch), preventive inspections have been carried out in all the schools of the Municipality, without any problem being detected regarding the safety of the buildings in the schools of the Municipality that are operating normally.

In addition, Mr.Spanakis pointed out that the Municipality of Ioannina has been allocated from the Central Autonomous Resources (CAP) of the year 2025 an amount of approximately 1.8 million euros to cover the costs of executing projects and investment activities, as well as an amount of 366,500 euros for the repair and maintenance of school buildings, amounts that are expected to be given this year.

The Deputy Minister of Interior referred, among other things, to the Call of the Special Management and Implementation Service of the Ministry of Interior, under which the project entitled: “Maintenance of school units and open sports facilities of the Municipality of Ioannina”, with a budget of 4,563,000 euros.

Finally, Mr. Spanakis – referring in detail to other funding from the Ministry of Interior to the Municipality of Ioannina – said that fire protection studies are already being carried out in various school complexes, with a total budget of 260,000 euros, while ramps and sanitary facilities for access and service for the disabled are being constructed in school units with a budget of about 1.1 million euros.
