A 62-year-old woman has been arrested by the authorities for a negligent fire that broke out today in the Mesargos area of Aegina.

According to the fire brigade, according to the evidence, a 62-year-old domestic woman caused the fire while burning waste in the yard of her house, resulting in the fire spreading to an adjacent agricultural area. The fire burned approximately 20 acres of farmland.

According to the Fire Brigade, the competent fire brigade forces were immediately mobilized, which quickly brought the fire under control, while the Fire Brigade’s investigative services were immediately mobilized and proceeded to investigate its causes.

After the preliminary investigation and after contacting the competent prosecutor of Piraeus, a case file was formed and the culprit was arrested under the self-incrimination procedure.

At the same time, the procedure for imposing the prescribed administrative sanctions was initiated, with the administrative fine amounting to 7.129 euros, since, as was known by the Fire Department, the culprit is guilty of a similar incident in the previous year.

It is noted that, from January 1 to May 30, 2026, a total of 365 administrative fines have been imposed, totalling 320.795,855 euros, while 60 arrests have been made in the context of the spontaneous procedure.

As stressed by the Fire Brigade, the Fire Brigade’s AIAE and investigative services remain in heightened operational readiness, carrying out continuous checks and proceeding immediately to attribute responsibility in cases of violations of the applicable legislation.
