Volodymyr Zelensky gives his response to Vladimir Putin’s statements about a Russia-Ukraine meeting at the negotiating table in an open letter proposing the setting of a clear date.
In particular, the Russian president said earlier that Russia would identify persons in Ukraine who could sign a peace agreement when the time is right.
“We will sign the agreement with legitimate representatives, maybe even with Zelensky,”
In an emotionally charged response, the Ukrainian president stressed to his Russian counterpart “not to be afraid to follow the path of exit from this war”, and suggested they should meet face-to-face for negotiations aimed at ending it.
“It is the leaders who resolve the key issues. That has always been true and it will always be true. I suggest that a clear date be set for such a meeting.”
