“Cyprus has been directly affected by this war more than any other member state,” European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said after the European Council. She noted that Cyprus’ reaction sent “a clear, united message that the security of Cyprus is the security of the European Union.”

She said that “I commend President Nicos Christodoulides of Cyprus for his handling of the situation and the Presidency that continues to deliver”.

She referred to the statement by the President of the Republic of Cyprus, saying that “there is normality and security in Cyprus, and I look forward to being there in April for the informal European Council”.
