An elderly woman in Agrinio fell victim to a phone scam, who was persuaded to throw 36,000 euros and jewellery worth 36,000 euros from the balcony.

As sinidisi.gr reports, a woman received a phone call on Thursday 21/5 from a stranger, who pretended to be her accountant and told her that there should be a “recording” of money and jewellery, which, he claimed, had been detected by satellite.

He claimed the jewellery had codes and the money was “chipped” and must be declared or it would be confiscated by the government.

Agrinio: Throw away the bags of money and jewellery

The elderly woman was convinced by the perpetrator’s words and put the money and jewellery in two bags that she threw from the balcony of her house. One contained jewellery and the other €36,000.

Soon afterwards, she contacted her accountant to find out if the recording had been made, at which point she realised she had been the victim of fraud.

According to the same information, at about 4 p.m. an unknown woman, who was wearing black, walked by the location and took the bags of money and jewelry that the elderly woman had thrown away.
