No dates have been set for a second round of negotiations between the US and Iran, a spokesman for Pakistan’s foreign ministry said.
The issues related to Tehran’s nuclear program are among the topics under discussion, he added.
Iran and the United States have registered some progress towards a possible agreement to end hostilities, a senior Iranian official said, but there is a wide divergence of positions between the two sides on Iran’s nuclear program as well.
The visit of Pakistani army chief Major General Asim Munir to Tehran yesterday helped narrow differences on some issues, raising expectations for an extension of the ceasefire and resumption of peace talks between Tehran and Washington, the Iranian official added, but key disagreements remain over the nuclear issue.
“The fate of highly enriched uranium and the duration of nuclear restrictions on Iran are among the most contentious issues on which no solution has yet been found,” he said.
