According to a report in the Washington Post, authorities have not yet concluded the origin of the drones, while the military has stepped up its monitoring of potential threats due to a heightened level of alert against a backdrop of tensions between the US-Israel and Iran. The incident led to heightened security measures at the base and a meeting at the White House to assess the situation.
Fort McNair is home to the National Defense University and senior Pentagon military officials. Despite not traditionally hosting political leaders, several Trump administration officials have been temporarily moved there for security reasons. Experts point out that the base does not have the same level of protection as other military installations in the region, adding to concerns about potential threats.
