A drone attack caused a fire in the major oil industrial zone of Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates, authorities said today, the 17th day of the war in Iran, with Tehran continuing to strike targets in Gulf countries in retaliation for US-Israeli attacks on Iranian territory.
“A fire broke out in the oil industrial zone (…) following a drone attack, with no injuries,” Fujira’s media office noted, clarifying that efforts to extinguish the fire were “ongoing”.
Meanwhile, two sources told Reuters that oil loading operations have been suspended.
Fujira port, located in the Gulf of Oman just outside the Strait of Hormuz, exports about 1 million barrels of crude oil a day from the Emirate’s Murban region, a volume that accounts for about 1 percent of global demand.
This is the second time there have been problems at Fujira, which was also targeted by drone strikes over the weekend.
