Two people were killed in Russian attacks in and around the city of Kharkiv, in northeastern Ukraine, and damaged by a Russian overnight attack on a port facility on the Danube in the Odessa region of the southern Black Sea country, according to Ukrainian officials.

The Kharkiv district prosecutor’s office said in a Telegram statement early this morning that a woman who was injured in an attack in the town of Kharkiv succumbed to her injuries after being taken to hospital.

The prosecutor’s office added that nine other people were wounded in the strikes in two areas of the town, which is a frequent target of Russian forces and is 30 kilometers from the border.

According to the prosecution, a man was also killed while in his car in an area near the border by a Russian unmanned aerial vehicle (drone)

A Russian attack overnight damaged port facilities on the Danube River in the Odessa region of southern Ukraine, local officials said.

Regional Governor Oleh Kipper clarified in a post on the Telegram messaging app that one person was injured in the attack, which also damaged energy and industrial infrastructure.

The Ukrainian Ports Authority said that one of the Ukrainian ports on the Danube was attacked. It did not name the port, but explained that warehouses, docks and administrative buildings were damaged. He also reported damage to the facilities of separate port operators.

The port is still operational, he added.

The mayor of the city of Ismail, which is Ukraine’s largest port on the Danube and is located on the other side of the river from Romania, a NATO member country, noted that the city had received another Russian “massive” drone attack.

The Ukrainian air force said Russia launched 153 drones against Ukraine, of which 130 were shot down or neutralized.

Fragments from a drone repelled and shot down by Ukrainian anti-aircraft defenses fell on Romanian territory, the Romanian Defense Ministry said in a parallel statement today.

“The drone crashed just outside the village of Parcses in the border county of Tulcea. No damage was recorded,” according to the ministry, which added in its statement that the drone was destroyed by Ukraine’s anti-aircraft defense systems during an overnight attack by Russian forces in Ukraine.

Meanwhile on the Russian side of the border, the regional governor in Belgorod region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, said an 18-year-old man riding a motorcycle in a village near the border was killed by Ukrainian drones, as was a woman riding in her car in the town of Grayvoron.

Belgorod has come under frequent attack by Ukrainian forces in the four-year war that has raged since Russia invaded Ukraine.

In Moscow, its mayor, Sergei Sobyanin, said at the same time that 17 Ukrainian drones were intercepted and destroyed as they headed into the capital during Wednesday’s attack.
