An alarm was raised on Sunday (22/3) afternoon in Istanbul when an explosion attributed to a gas leak caused the collapse of two buildings in the Fatih district.
The incident occurred at around 12:00 pm on Ebe Street in the Ayvansaray neighborhood, with initial reports citing a powerful explosion that led to the collapse of the structures.
AFAD, fire brigade, police and rescuers immediately rushed to the scene, launching an extensive search and rescue operation.
According to information so far, five people were trapped under the rubble. Three have already been extricated and taken to hospitals, while efforts are ongoing to locate and rescue the remaining two.
Operations are in full swing, with authorities remaining on alert.
