Donald Trump has claimed that the president of Iran has called for a ceasefire. However, the US president stressed that a precondition is the opening of the Strait of Hormuz. Until then, the attacks will continue.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, he wrote:

“The President of Iran’s new regime, far less radical and far more intelligent than his predecessors, has just asked the United States of America for EXCUSE! We will consider it when the Strait of Hormuz is open, free and safe. Until then, we will destroy Iran or, as they say, send it back to the Stone Age!!!”

Note that tomorrow Trump will address the American people on developments surrounding Iran, White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt announced via X.

White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt

“Tomorrow night at 9” (local time; 4:00 p.m. Thursday GMT), “President Trump will address the nation to provide important new information regarding Iran,” Levitt said.

The statement was released hours after Trump said the United States was expected to withdraw from Iran “very soon”, timing the move at “two or three weeks”. Trump also said there may be an agreement between Washington and Tehran before that time and stressed that regime change has occurred in Iran.

“It doesn’t matter whether they come to the negotiating table or not,” the US president said, adding that Tehran “has gone back 15-20 years”, has no navy, army or air force and has no leadership.

Continued hostilities

Earlier, the Israeli military said it had carried out another “wave” of “large-scale” bombing of the Iranian capital. “A short while ago, the Israeli Armed Forces completed a wave of large-scale strikes” that targeted “infrastructure of the Iranian terrorist regime in Tehran,” according to a statement released via Telegram.

Iranian state television reported that a series of explosions were heard in the northern, eastern and central parts of the Islamic Republic’s capital.

The Israeli military also said this morning that anti-aircraft defence systems were activated to intercept a missile fired from Yemeni territory against the territory of the state of Israel, as Houthi rebels have been launching attacks in recent days after entering the war on Iran’s side. “Israeli armed forces detected the launch of a missile from Yemen moving towards Israeli territory, anti-aircraft defense systems are attempting to intercept the threat,” according to a statement released via Telegram, before going on to end the alert fifteen minutes later.

This followed a drone raid attributed to Iran that targeted fuel storage tanks at Kuwait’s international airport, causing a fire, the small emirate’s official news agency KUNA reported in the early hours of the morning, citing a spokesman for the civil aviation service.

“Kuwait’s international airport was attacked by drones launched by Iran and armed organizations supporting it,” Abdullah al-Raji, the spokesman for the service, was quoted as saying by the agency.

The spokesman added that the drones “targeted (…) fuel tanks, causing a huge fire,” but there were no casualties.

An “unknown missile” hit a tanker in the sea about 17 nautical miles (about 30 kilometres) north of Doha, the capital of Qatar, the UKMTO, a maritime safety agency under the British Ministry of Defence, said in the early hours of this morning, citing a report from the master.
