U.S. President Donald Trump announced yesterday, Saturday, that he has selected James McDonald for the position of U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York.
The Manhattan District Attorney is considered one of the most powerful in the country and enjoys a greater degree of independence from the U.S. Department of Justice compared to other federalprosecutors. He handles major cases involving financial crimes, terrorism, and corruption.
“I am confident that Jamie will achieve significant results for our country as the next U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, as he is respected by law enforcement patriots, the legal community, and the judiciary, and will work fantastically with them,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social.
Provided his nomination is confirmed by the U.S. Senate, James McDonald will succeed Jay Clayton, whom President Trump selected for the position of Director of National Intelligence (DNI) following the resignation of Tulsi Gabbard.
