Commotion broke out during technical work in the vicinity of the 424 General Military Training Hospital in Thessaloniki, when an unexploded mortar shell was discovered near the facilities.
According to reports, the shell was found while work was underway to create a firebreak. During the work, a grader struck a metal object, which was subsequently identified as an unexploded mortar shell.
The relevant authorities were immediately mobilized, and personnel from the Landmine Clearance Department rushed to the scene. The area was cordoned off as a precaution, while army bomb disposal experts safely proceeded to neutralize the projectile without incident.
After the operation was completed, work continued as normal.
