The first data on the announcement of the 1.131 permanent medical staff positions in the National Health System, as increased interest is being recorded from doctors across the country.
Especially for the positions in Attica “we have multiple candidates”, the Deputy Minister of Health said, speaking to the radio station “REAL FM”.
He stressed that “the picture is significantly different from previous years, as there are now 8, 9 or even 10 doctors competing for positions” and added: “This is extremely good for the National Health System. It shows that the NHS is becoming attractive again for young doctors and it gives the opportunity to select the best from a number of candidates.”
The Deputy Minister of Health pointed out that the announcement of the 1.131 doctor positions is only one part of the overall recruitment plan for 2026. As he said, “For 2026, we have 5,000 permanent positions and 3,000 auxiliary staff positions. So, the announcement of 1,131 posts is a small part of the total recruitment for the year.” At the same time, he noted that the platform for the recruitment of nursing staff in Attica’s hospitals has already been opened. As stated: “We are proceeding to recruit anyone who has submitted their papers and wants to work in a hospital in Attica.” Themistocleous also announced that early next week the corresponding platform for the recruitment of nursing and other staff in the hospitals of the region is expected to be opened.
On the subject of inclusion in the heavy and unhealthy category, the Deputy Minister of Health said that “the inclusion of health workers in the heavy and unhealthy category is a long-standing demand of nurses, which is now being met” and clarified that: “the measure has been implemented since the beginning of the year and applies to nurses, rescuers and ambulance drivers working in health centres.”
