The Ministry of Shipping and Island Policy is turning its attention to Lipsi, promoting a project that is expected to significantly upgrade the island’s port infrastructure and improve coastal connections.
In a post on LinkedIn, the Minister of Shipping and Island Policy, Vassilis Kikilias, announced the signing of the decision to launch the tender for the extension of the port of Lipsi and the construction of a new dock for ferries and passenger ships at the “Kavi” location, a project with a budget of more than 5.2 million euros.
As the Minister said, in a telephone conversation with the mayor of Lipsi, Fotis Magos, the latter described the project as an intervention that “changes the transport map of Lipsi”, expressing his satisfaction with the development of a claim that, as he noted, is now moving from the stage of discussions to implementation.
The Minister stressed that the new port infrastructure is not only about the construction of a technical project, but is directly linked to the safety of ships, the improvement of mooring and service conditions, as well as the enhancement of the reliability of the island’s maritime transport. “In places like Lipsi, such interventions are of particular importance. In the port, in the waiting, boarding, disembarkation, the work of the people who live with the ship every day and the needs of the island,” Kikilias noted, adding that the government continues to give priority to projects that strengthen the island’s insularity and improve the quality of life of its residents.
