Targeted inspections of catering businesses were carried out by teams of the Independent Public Revenue Authority in areas of the Athenian Riviera, where increased commercial and tourist activity is recorded during the summer season.
The auditors carried out a total of 102 inspections in cafes, bars, restaurants and leisure facilities. Of these, 27 businesses were found to have committed tax offences, while a total of 110 tax offences were recorded.
The fines imposed totalled 84,000 euros, while three businesses were also subjected to a 48-hour suspension for serious violations.
The businesses sealed are located in Paleo Faliro, Alimos and Glyfada.
The checks focused mainly on the issue of retail receipts, the proper functioning of tax mechanisms and the transmission of transactions to the tax administration’s electronic systems.
The AADE notes that inspections will continue at an intensive pace throughout the summer, with particular emphasis on tourist and coastal areas, with the aim of tackling tax evasion, strengthening tax compliance and ensuring a level playing field in the market.
