At least 22 people were injured today when a passenger train derailed in the Ulyanovsk region, which is about 900 kilometers east of Moscow, regional authorities said, clarifying that no people died.

Seven carriages of the train connecting Chelyabinsk, in the Urals, with Moscow were “derailed” in this accident, which occurred early this morning, according to regional governor Alexei Ruskikh.

The accident occurred near the Briantino station, about 70 kilometers from the city of Ulyanovsk, he clarified in a post on the Telegram app, adding that he went to the site.

Footage broadcast by the Russian TV network Vesti shows at least two train cars lying down on the side of the railway tracks in a dense fog.

“According to preliminary information, two passengers are suffering from fractures (…) and twenty others, including a child, are bruised,” Chelyabinsk Region Governor Alexei Teksler wrote in a parallel Telegram post.

“There is no dead man,”

An investigation has been launched into violations of railway safety and operation regulations, the Russian Investigative Committee, which is in charge of key investigation cases in the country, said, clarifying that its investigators have gone to the scene of the accident.

The train was carrying 412 passengers, according to a Russian Railways (RZD) official quoted by Russian news agency RIA Novosti.
