In his statement, U.S. diplomatic chief Marco Rubio congratulated the Greek people on the national anniversary of March 25, honoring Greece as the birthplace of democracy and recognizing its role in shaping the ideals that inspired Western civilization and the fathers of American democracy.

In his message, the US Secretary of State stressed that close cooperation between the two countries in the areas of defence and law enforcement strengthens stability in the Mediterranean. As he notes, the United States and Greece are working together to combat organized crime, illegal immigration, terrorism and illicit trafficking in antiquities, contributing to the security and strength of both countries.

Special mention is also made of energy, with Marco Rubio praising Greece’s decisive steps to reduce its dependence on Russian energy. He says the US is committed to deepening trade ties with Greece, boosting economic growth and supplying the region with safe and reliable US LNG.
