Although they had seven absences, Panathinaikos of nine players had absolutely no problems against Prometheus and crushed them 96-63 in Patras, in the 24th round of the Stoiximan Basket League.
The two teams were going hand-in-hand until the sixth minute, when they were tied 14-14, but somewhere in there the Greens decided to pick up the pace and went on a 12-0 run to make it 14-26 at the end of the first quarter.
Ergin Ataman’s team remained serious in the second quarter and that was best seen by the score in that quarter: 6-31. It may seem unbelievable, but that’s what happened in the second quarter, with the “trefoil” being at… +37 (20-57) at the end of the first half.
In fact, Panathinaikos didn’t stop there, but went on a 7-0 run to start the third quarter to turn the score to 20-64, with everything decided and the rest of the game a mere formality.
Ataman, understandably, was trying to give his players a breather, though it wasn’t that easy as he only had nine at his disposal, with the Greens slowing down after that and Prometheus scoring more easily and trying to close the gap somewhat, with the final score being 63-96.
