French President Emmanuel Macron announced in the early hours of this morning that he had recommended a moratorium on strikes on civilian infrastructure in the Middle East, explaining that he had spoken by phone with US President Donald Trump and Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani.

“It is in our common interest to implement, without delay, a moratorium on strikes against civilian infrastructure, particularly energy and water facilities,” he said – in posts in French and English. Macron via X, noting that he had spoken with the leaders of the US and Qatar following “the strikes on gas facilities in Iran and Qatar.”

“Civilians and their basic needs, as well as the security of energy supplies, must be protected from military escalation,” he added.
