The Holy Land in Jerusalem is accessible again today. After 40 days, police have given the go-ahead to open the gates to the Church of the Resurrection and other sites in Jerusalem’s Old City ahead of the Orthodox Easter.
Sanctuaries in Jerusalem reopen for visits and prayer. These include the Western Wall, the Temple of the Resurrection and the Temple Mount.
Police said that in view of increased traffic in these areas, the commander of the Jerusalem District has ordered increased operational readiness.
In this regard, hundreds of police officers, Border Guard men and volunteers will be deployed throughout the city, on roads, in the Old City and at holy sites.
It is unclear if anything will change with the Holy Light ceremony at the Church of the Resurrection on Holy Saturday where there is a limit of up to 50 people. The Patriarchate is expected to meet with the Old Town police to make final decisions, which will take place today or tomorrow morning.
