A wave of severe weather continues to hit central and southern Italy due to Cyclone Herminio. In the region of Molise, this morning, a bridge collapsed at the level of the river Trinho. There are no casualties, because since yesterday, Wednesday, the passage of cars and pedestrians had been prohibited. Due to continuous rainfall and the heaviest snowfall in eight years, road links between Molise and the Abruzzo region have been disrupted.

At the Ancona station, hundreds of passengers waited in vain for hours to be able to board coaches and buses, which were unable to move due to the extreme weather conditions.

In the central district of Marche, about 90 residents were stranded due to landslides. In the Puglia region, with its capital Bari, vast agricultural areas were flooded. 40 farmhouse residents and 50 car drivers were trapped. The immediate mobilisation of fire brigades and civil protection teams was crucial to their rescue. From tomorrow, Friday, a gradual improvement in weather conditions is expected, starting in central Italy.
