New rules are coming to car drivers from June 18 regarding the first aid kit that should be in their vehicle.
According to a decision by the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Konstantinos Kyranakis, the first aid kit should include specific items, such as an isothermal rescue blanket with specific dimensions, bleach, trauma plasters, bandages, burn and wound dressings, first aid scissors, disposable gloves, liquid skin cleansing wipes, a medical face mask and first aid instructions.
In case of non-compliance, violators shall be punished in accordance with the provisions of para. 25 of article 85 of the Road Traffic Code (Law 5209/2025), i.e. with a fine of 30 euros.
In detail, Decision D30/45652/2026 redefined both the content of the sanitary material of the first aid kit of the car and its technical specifications.
According to the same decision, all road motor vehicles except for two-wheelers circulating in the Greek territory are required to carry a first aid kit containing sanitary material suitable for immediate use in case of an accident or emergency.
The decision states that “the first aid kit shall be placed inside the vehicle in a position that is easily and immediately accessible to ensure that it can be used without delay in the event of an emergency, and shall not be locked or have any object other than dressing and medication placed inside it”.
It should, at the responsibility of the owners or drivers of the vehicles, be renewed, due to the special conditions of its maintenance, mainly during the summer months, at short intervals and not beyond two years.
The pharmacy materials must be within the expiry date, in good condition and CE marked in accordance with the EU Medical Device Regulation.
