U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Israel and Lebanon will formally enter into a 10-day ceasefire as of midnight (GMT).
The US President wrote in a post on the Truth Social platform that he had “excellent conversations” with Lebanon’s “respected” President Joseph Aoun and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The two leaders agreed that in order to achieve peace between their countries, a ceasefire would formally begin “at 5 p.m. East Coast time” in the U.S. (midnight GMT).
Trump added that he had instructed Vice President J.D. Vance to work with these two countries to achieve lasting peace.
According to a reporter for the news website Axios, Israel’s security cabinet is meeting to discuss the ceasefire in Lebanon.
