The United States violated the ceasefire with airstrikes in southern Iran, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said today.

The US military carried out strikes in southern Iran yesterday (Monday) against targets, including ships trying to lay mines and against missile launch sites, in what it described as defensive actions.

The attacks were carried out while a ceasefire has remained in place since April 8.

Iranian media reported that powerful explosions were heard in the southern province of Badar Abbas around midnight.

“The United States has committed a flagrant violation of the ceasefire in the Hormozan region over the past 48 hours… Iran holds the US regime responsible for all the consequences arising from these aggressive and unjustified actions,” the Iranian Foreign Ministry statement said.
