Iran rules out the possibility of reopening the Strait of Hormuz as long as the US blockade of Iranian ports remains in place, the speaker of parliament said today.

Bayer Galibaf, Iran’s top negotiator, said in a post on Platform X that a full ceasefire only makes sense as long as it is not violated by the US blockade of Iranian ports.

The opening of the Strait of Hormuz is “impossible” with such a “flagrant violation of the ceasefire”, he added.

Shortly earlier, Iraqi Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Bagaei said he “appreciates” Pakistan’s efforts to end the war, but would not comment on the extension of the ceasefire unilaterally decided by Washington. When asked by reporters about the Pakistani mediators’ request for an extension of the ceasefire – accepted by Donald Trump before it expired – the spokesman limited himself to welcoming Pakistan’s efforts and stressed that the Islamic Republic was taking “necessary measures (…) for the security” of the country.
