Greece drew 0-0 with Hungary in a friendly match played at the imposing Puskas Arena in Budapest.
The “blue and white” team played without Konstantelia, Karetsas and Zafiris, who were suffering from a virus in the last 24 hours and had a satisfactory performance in the attacking department, despite the many changes, but could not find many “moments” in attack to score and get the victory.
.
The Hungarians had the first good moment on 7′ with a shot by Salai that was blocked by Konstantinis Tzolakis with his feet, while on 11′ during a break in the Hungarian area, the ball ended up to Kourmpelis who crossed the ball but Tot saved. Sobozlai had a direct foul on 22′ that the national team’s goalkeeper punched away, while on 38′ the Magyars’ goalkeeper showed very good reflexes in his attempt on Čimika’s effort.
At the start of the second half, Soboslai’s “magical” action at 52′ (he passed three players) led to another great intervention with his feet and an equally unlikely save by Tzolakis, to be followed by the Greek team’s greatest moment at 63′ with Pavlidis’ cross.
On a vertical pass to the Benfica forward, he got past Tot and from a very difficult angle, the Hungarian goalkeeper found the ball with his fingertips and it subsequently went to the left post for a corner.
In the last quarter (with stoppage time), Ivan Jovanovic tried a three-man formation in defence (3-5-2) with Lazaros Rota at right stopper along with Retsos and Koulierakis, placing Tettei next to Pavlidis in attack, but Greece did not find any more phases until the final whistle.
