At the end of the Holy Spirit weekend, excursionists are returning to Athens and other urban centers today, Monday, with the weather being summery.
On the Athens-Corinthos and Athens-Lamia National Roads, the early afternoon was smooth, with traffic flowing without any problems or delays at the tolls.
.
The peak of the return is expected from the afternoon and evening hours, as both those who left on Friday and the one-day travellers of the Monday of the Holy Spirit are due to return.
.
Estimates suggest that significant traffic and delays are expected as time goes on, particularly on the inbound streams to urban centres.
Strict traffic measures
Traffic police have been deployed at ports, airports and hubs on the national and provincial road network to regulate traffic and prevent road accidents.
Attention is being paid at the entrances/exits of major urban centres as well as at points on the road network where there is a high incidence of road accidents.
Traffic police checkpoints will be located at many points of the road network for alcohol tests and other dangerous offences, such as speeding, using a mobile phone while driving, not wearing a protective helmet – seat belt, improper overtaking and crossing a double line, etc.
At the same time, a curfew for trucks over 3.5 tonnes is also in force from 16:00 to 23:00 on the entry streams to urban centres.
