Lebanon’s Shiite group Hezbollah said it attacked Israeli soldiers in Misgav Am, in northern Israel, shortly after Israeli rescue services said one man was killed after a rocket fired from Lebanon.
“A missile originating from Lebanon was detected a few hours ago heading towards a location along the northern border. There is damage and injuries. The incident is under investigation,” the Israeli military had initially indicated.
“Two vehicles were burned to the ground after a direct hit in kibbutz Misgav Am: firefighters recovered one dead body from the scene,” the fire service clarified.
Israeli television networks broadcast images showing the two vehicles engulfed in flames. According to Israeli journalists, notably the Times of Israel’s war correspondent, the attack was launched with an anti-tank missile.
Since the start of the Middle East war on February 28, which erupted following Israeli and US strikes against Iran, 16 people have been killed in Israel and four women in the occupied West Bank.
This is the first civilian killed in northern Israel since Hezbollah’s involvement in the war on March 2 in retaliation for the death of Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Since then, the Israeli military has been conducting air strikes against Lebanon and ground operations in the neutral zone along the border.
Two Israeli soldiers were killed by Hezbollah fire on March 8 in southern Lebanon.
