Hezbollah will not accept a “partial ceasefire” with Israel, a senior official of the pro-Iranian group told Agence France-Presse today, threatening retaliation if Israel attacks Beirut and its environs.
“We will not accept any partial ceasefire agreement,” Mahmoud Qomati assured in a written statement. “The Zionist enemy must know that any attack on the suburbs (of Beirut) can provoke a stronger response” from Hezbollah, he added.
Israel’s Defence Minister Israel Kats said earlier that the US had given approval for Israeli forces to strike Beirut’s southern suburbs, a Hezbollah stronghold, if the group attacks Israeli territory.
