The 67-year-old man, who was brutally attacked by a 38-year-old man in an apartment in Evosmos, Thessaloniki, breathed his last at dawn.
The incident occurred on Friday night, around 21:00, when, according to initial information, the two men had used drugs and a heated argument between them over personal differences ensued. The confrontation turned into a scuffle, during which the 67-year-old man was struck multiple times.
The injured man was transferred in critical condition to the Hippocrates Hospital of Thessaloniki, where, despite the efforts of doctors, he succumbed to his injuries early in the morning.
After the death of the 67-year-old, the case against the 38-year-old was upgraded and now concerns the crime of manslaughter. The arrested man is expected to be brought before the relevant prosecutor.
According to reports, the two men had previously been in the police’s custody for drug-related cases and customs code violations. At the same time, the 38-year-old man allegedly had a past relationship with the victim’s daughter.
Investigation into the exact circumstances under which the incident occurred is being conducted by the Department of Prosecution and Investigation of Crimes of Cordelios Evosmos.
