In an interview with Rainbow Mermaids on YouTube, Doretta Papadimitriou revealed that she experienced postpartum depression after the birth of her first child, describing how she managed the condition and what helped her overcome it.
“Social media in this piece has helped. In the sense that a lot of information and experience is given by other mums, so you can find a supportive environment. Whether at the end of the day you can understand that everything you’re thinking and everything you’re feeling is being thought and felt by everyone. You’re not alone,” the actress and presenter initially said.
As she explained, at the time she became a mother she didn’t have access to that kind of support herself, “I didn’t have that, because back then I think there was a Facebook and no relationship that is, not even. I kind of managed that on my own.”
Referring to her first child, she revealed: “The first child especially, with Dionysus, I also had a little bit of epilepsy like that, which of course I got over very quickly because I got pregnant with Philip, so I thought I didn’t have time at the moment to have epilepsy.”
She went on to note that hormonal changes also played a role: “And obviously my hormonal which again changed with a second pregnancy. It came on a little bit and helped me, obviously. It takes time and it takes understanding yourself and loving yourself, because really for a very long time you’re just there to take care of the kids.”
