AEK did almost everything wrong in the first half of their rematch with Chelier, trailing 0-2, but their abysmal first-half performance didn’t cost them a spot in the Conference League quarterfinals.
The 4-0 first-leg deficit in Slovenia could not be overturned, with AEK suffering a “sweet” 2-0 loss to Celje in New Philadelphia, but a 4-2 aggregate score gave them qualification to the Conference League Round of 8 for the first time in their history.
There, they’ll meet the winner of Samsunspor vs. Rayo Vallecano.
