The relevant authorities proceeded to locate and rescue 29 migrants aboard a boat in the sea area 50 nautical miles north-northeast of Gavdos.
According to the Hellenic Coast Guard, the boat was spotted by an unmanned aerial vehicle (drone) belonging to FRONTEX, while the operation was coordinated by the Joint Search and Rescue Coordination Center (ECSR).
The 29 foreign nationals were safely rescued by a passing Danish-flagged merchant ship and are being transported to the port of Souda.
