As part of the Rethymno Police Department’s special plan to combat illegal gun possession and prevent crime, and following the evaluation of information received by the Rethymno Criminal Investigation andCrime Investigation Sub-Directorate of Rethymno and the Rethymno Police Operations Department, a coordinated police operation was organized yesterday in the municipality of Amari. 

During the operation, in which officers from the aforementioned Service, the Amari Police Station, and the Rethymno Crime Prevention and Suppression Unit participated, lawful searches were conducted in a residence and other locations, and three Greek nationals (a 52-year-old man, a 23-year-old man, and a 41-year-old woman) were arrested, while charges were filed against two additional Greek nationals for violations of weapons laws and the police regulation on livestock theft.

Specifically, as part of the investigations, the following items were found and seized:

* Revolver

* Gun magazine

* 220 cartridges of various types and calibers

* Bayonet and brass knuckles

* 19 knives of various types

Also, during an inspection at the local sheepfold, violations of the police regulation on livestock theft were found, as 123 sheep were counted instead of the declared 1,840, some of which did not have the required ear tags.

The preliminary investigation is being conducted by the Rethymno Crime Investigation and Prosecution Subdivision.
