Telephone fraud against an elderly woman, which occurred on May 14 in a village of Pella, was solved by police officers of the Edessa Crime Investigation Department. A case was filed against a minor, whose details have been identified, while investigations are continuing to identify his accomplices.

According to the police investigation, an unknown man called the elderly woman pretending to be an accountant and claimed that, in order to avoid a fine, he had to hand over jewellery from her house for a supposed appraisal. The victim was persuaded and handed over 26 gold pounds and jewellery worth about 2,000 euros to an accomplice of the perpetrator, according to her statement. The valuables were received by the juvenile who has been identified.The authorities’ investigation is continuing to identify the other persons involved and their possible involvement in other similar criminal acts.

The General Regional Police Directorate of Central Macedonia recommends that citizens:

– Do not trust strangers who call and pretend to have different qualities.
