Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Heorhii Tykhyi in a social media post expressed regret over the incident with the Ukrainian maritime drone found in Lefkada and said it “was a result of the conditions that have developed due to the ongoing Russian aggression against Ukraine.”

Specifically, the spokesman for the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted:

“On the occasion of the incident concerning the sea drone which was detected near the Greek island of Lefkada, the Ukrainian side expresses its gratitude to Greece and the Greek people for the steady support they have provided to our country since the very first days of the full-scale Russian invasion. Ukraine attaches great importance to the friendly relations it maintains with Greece.

Ukraine attaches great importance to the friendly relations it maintains with Greece.

As contemporary challenges to international and regional security, and in particular maritime security, as well as the activities of the Russian “shadow fleet” are a common concern for both Greece and Ukraine, Ukraine underlines its commitment to the rules of international law and the principles of civil navigation safety, noting its interest in preventing similar incidents in the future.

In this context, the Ukrainian side regrets the incident, stressing that it was a result of the circumstances that have arisen due to the ongoing Russian aggression against Ukraine.

The Ukrainian side is convinced that this incident, as well as similar incidents in other regions, demonstrates that the ongoing Russian aggression against Ukraine poses a threat not only to our country, but also to neighbouring friendly states, Europe and the international community as a whole.

Ukraine remains committed, together with Greece, to further deepening friendly relations between our two countries and to developing a constructive dialogue in all areas of mutual interest.”
