Minister of Economy and Finance and President of the Eurogroup Kyriakos Pierrakakis is in Paris to participate in the annual Ministerial Conference of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), one of the most important international meetings for the formulation of policies for growth, competitiveness and prosperity.
The focus of this year’s conference is on industrial policy, with the theme: “Getting industrial policies right for open markets, growth and prosperity”. Discussions will focus on how industrial strategies and competitive markets, at national and international level, can enhance long-term growth, productivity and living standards. Particular emphasis will be placed on enhancing competition, maintaining fiscal responsibility, harnessing digital and emerging technologies and creating the conditions for sustainable growth.
During the conference, Mr. Pierrakakis will have a meeting with OECD Secretary General Mathias Cormann and will intervene in the Plenary Session of the Ministerial Meeting, in the session on “Balancing the objectives and impacts of industrial policy”. In addition, he will be a keynote speaker at the session on “Fiscal Sustainability and Industrial Policies”, where he is expected to present the European challenges and conditions for financing competitiveness in an environment of increased pressures on European economies.
In the margins of his stay in Paris, Mr. Pierrakakis will hold a series of meetings with leading institutional and international players, including the new Governor of the Bank of France, Emmanuel Moulin, and the Executive Director of the International Energy Agency (IEA), Fatih Birol, on developments in the European economy, energy security and investment.
The Minister will also hold bilateral meetings with European officials and will participate as a keynote speaker at an event organised by the Jacques Delors Institute.
