Tehran reiterated today that a ceasefire in Lebanon, where the Israeli army is stepping up its strikes against Hezbollah, an Iranian-allied group, is a precondition for any deal with Washington to end the Middle East war.

“We insist that a ceasefire in Lebanon is a basic precondition for any agreement aimed at ending the war with the US,” Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said at a news conference in the Iranian capital.
