Five foreign traffickers who were pushing illegal immigrants inside the country on four separate occasions were arrested by police officers in Evros and Rodopi regions.

According to a statement by the General Regional Police Directorate of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, in the first case, yesterday morning, on the Ormeni-Ardani National Road, police officers arrested one trafficker because they found her driving a car and illegally transporting six illegal immigrants inland.

In the second case, at noon on the same day, on the Alexandroupolis-Komotini highway, police officers arrested the second trafficker because she was driving a car and illegally transporting six illegal immigrants to the mainland.

In the third case, yesterday afternoon, in a rural area of Evros, police officers arrested the third trafficker, because they found him driving a car and illegally transporting five illegal immigrants inland.

In the fourth case, today in the early morning hours, in a settlement of Evros, police officers of the Border Guard Department of Didymoteicho of the Orestiada Police Directorate arrested the two traffickers, because they found them riding in a car towing a vehicle (trailer) inside which six illegal immigrants were being transported illegally to the mainland.

It is noted that the towed vehicle had fake registration plates and 15 counterfeit banknotes were found in the possession of the passenger perpetrator. The vehicles, a pair of fake registration plates, 15 counterfeit notes and mobile phones were seized.

The arrested persons will be taken to the competent prosecutors, while the preliminary investigation of the four cases is being carried out by the Border Guard Departments of Didymoteicho and Sapes.
