A telephone fraud against a 74-year-old woman, which took place last Tuesday in a village of Kilkis, was investigated by police officers of the Department of Crime Detection and Investigation of Kilkis. A case was filed against a 27-year-old local man, whose details have been identified.
Specifically, his accomplice called the elderly woman’s landline phone and, pretending to be a notary, persuaded her to collect money and jewelry in order to allegedly be counted.
This way they managed to extort the sum of 5.300 euros, 32 pounds sterling and various jewellery, which the aforementioned man received and fled in a vehicle owned by his 32-year-old sister.
The investigation by police officers continues, both to establish the identity of his accomplices and for their possible involvement in other similar criminal acts.
The case file will be submitted to the prosecutor of Kilkis.
Meanwhile, in order to avoid deception of unsuspecting citizens by fraudsters, the General Regional Police Directorate of Central Macedonia recommends citizens:
* Don’t trust strangers who call you and pretend various properties.
* Do not disclose if you have money, jewelry or valuables in the home.
* Always inform the police, even in the case of attempted fraud against you.
It also reminds people that spreading this advice to relatives, friends and especially the elderly can prevent further incidents of fraud.
