36 foreigners were safely transported to the port of Gavdos, who were found in a dinghy in the sea area 10 nautical miles south of the island, in yet another incident recorded after the increased migratory flows of the last few days in the area.
According to the Coast Guard – Greek Coast Guard, the dinghy was located by a Dutch-flagged ship, while the operation was coordinated by the Single Coordination Centre for Search and Rescue (CSRRC). A Coast Guard watercraft then proceeded to retrieve the 36 foreigners and transport them to the port of Gavdos.
The new incident comes a day after search and rescue operations were carried out south of Crete and Gavdos, during which at least 610 foreigners in dinghies were recovered. The rescues were carried out in ten different operations under the coordination of the EKSED, with the assistance of water and air assets of the Coast Guard – Greek Coast Guard, as well as units of the FRONTEX force.
