The 7-year-old Sophia Kaliskami from Poros won the first place in the U7 category at the European School Chess Championship 2026, who was crowned European champion.
The young chess player is following a demanding training schedule and is preparing for the World Championship at the end of the month.
Talking to ANT1 and Nikos Hatzinikolaou’s main newscast, little Sofia said:
“At first I just saw a chessboard and I didn’t know what it was and I didn’t know what it was. My mom explained it to me and that’s how I started chess. The queen is my favorite pawn.”

According to the Hellenic Chess Federation, the 7-year-old’s performance in the event was impressive, proving her great talent and dedication to the sport.
